The Art of Healing Touch

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues in the body. Various techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, feet, or a device. The purpose of Massage Therapy is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain. The word “massage” comes from the French and means "friction of kneading", which, in turn, comes from the Arabic word “massa” meaning "to touch, feel". Massage has been found in many ancient civilisations and dates back to 2330 B.C.: The Tomb of Akmanthor in Egypt depicts two men having work done on their feet and hands, presumably massage.

What are the health benefits of Massage Therapy? Peer-reviewed medical research has shown that the benefits of massage include

  • pain relief, reduced trait anxiety, and depression

  • temporarily reduced blood pressure, heart rate, and state of anxiety

  • increase and expedited recovery periods for muscle performance
